today's post is brought to you by the letter h

I've been looking for a wooden letter to add to our kid's art wall for some time now.  My favorite was the sleek, modern, wooden W that I saw outside of the women's bathroom at our local mall, but no luck in finding out where they got it.  Ever ask a bathroom attendant if they know where the "W" came from? Yeah, well I don't suggest it.

So after I had some leftover moss the other day from crafting some wreaths with a friend,

isn't her finished wreath great?!

I decided who needs super cool, modern wooden letters anyway?  Not me.  I'll just make my own letter thankyouverymuch.

The "super moss" and the letter came from Hobby Lobby.  I think the moss was $7 and the letter was $3.  It comes in one big sheet so you can use it for multiple projects.

The first thing you'll want to do is lay your letter on the back of the moss, trace around it, and cut it out.  I don't have a photo of this because I forgot to take one.

I used mod podge to adhere the moss but you could use a hot glue gun or even Elmer's.

Press the moss onto the letter...

Lay your letter, moss side down, and put something on top of it for a few minutes.

Now that might be one of the quickest (10 minutes) and cheapest ($10) crafts I've done in a while...well except for my kitchen curtains.

It's just leaning up there right now so I can keep my options open if I need to move it.

Wal Mart chairs

I have to share this great find with you today.  I've been wanting to replace our broken and hazardous office chairs and when I saw these on clearance at Wal-Mart the other day (for $15, what!?) I knew I shouldn't pass these up.

I actually bought one for every member of our family--black for the boys (ignore the mess:) ) and white for me.  I knew they would be ok with them, but I had no idea that they would like them as much as I did.  And they're comfortable too.  If your Wal Mart doesn't carry them, you can find them here.  They aren't clearanced online but they're still a good price.

valentine's week and a printable

I think holidays should be given an entire week.  Don't you?  Especially birthdays.  Actually a month for birthdays and a week for other holidays.  So, Happy Valentine's Week!
Sometimes I focus so much on chocolates, what to get my husband, trying to think of something special to do for my kids, more chocolate, putting some red or pink touches around the house, and oh yeah, the chocolate, that I overlook the Greatest Love in my life.  When I look at God's love, everything else seems so much like a shadow of the real thing.  Don't get me wrong, I LOVE my family and I do like to get gifts, but the love He has for me is infinitely better.

Even my love for Him is so small and self-centered in comparison to His love for me.  I learn what love is by looking at His love, but I only love Him and others when He consumes my life and decides to love through me.
It's all Him.
There are so many times that I just wish I could "get it."  Wouldn't that be great, if we really had an idea of the magnitude of His love?  Life would never be the same.  I would never be the same.  Might be a little like a newborn baby trying to understand the depth of his mother's love for him.
Well, here's my feeble attempt to take a look at His words about me, His child.  These modified Scriptures make up the best, longest run-on sentence you've ever read.

out on a limb

Maybe it's the excessive amounts of tree limbs that are down in our part of the country because of the ice and snow, or maybe it's just a desire to find ways to decorate without spending money...
but I must warn you,
I'm on a tree limb kick.
This one came from a tree my parents cut down last year.  They thought I was crazy when I loaded it up in my minivan and brought it home.

It used to reside in the boys' room to hang hats on (you've seen it before in the t-shirt canvas post)  but I decided they didn't love it as much as I did so I moved it downstairs.

We've been needing something for coats at the front door so we'll try this for a while.
I'll keep you posted.

Here are a few more ideas...

Don't you adore this idea?  I love the look but I'm afraid those sweet birds wouldn't last long in our house...maybe some plastic snakes or something.

design sponge
This has happened at our house a few times but not on purpose.  There's something about the simplicity and randomness with this one that I love...pure art.

design sponge
How cool would this be in a kid's room!?

You could use tree limbs like these last two photos for almost every season...red hearts for Valentine's Day, Snowflakes for winter, bats for Halloween, leaves cut out of newspaper for fall...I could go on...

Tree limbs are even going to be the main decoration for our school's Winter Festival this month.

tree limbs + silver spray paint + son who loves to spray paint almost as much as his mom=cheap winter trees

They may turn up missing after the festival:)

brickyard buffalo

Such an exciting day...I'm selling this piece on
Brickyard Buffalo...and it's discounted!

Have you heard of Brickyard Buffalo? Surely you have.

They are an online pop-up market that showcases individual companies and their freshest items, constantly working to bring you all the best products available and all in one place.
They have new discounted deals everyday. I've already bought some wonderful scarves for $7.
Seven bucks, people! And I loved the pillows but they sold out before I could make up my mind.
Darn indecision. So hurry, check out their deals so you don't miss out on a great buy!

lamp diy

How about a  lamp diy to start the year off right? And yes, I think I'll be making a reference to "the new year" for a few weeks, hope you don't mind:)

I learned long ago that when looking for a good lamp to makeover, you should #1 make sure it works, and even that can be fixed, and #2 look at the shape.  Shape is definitely what won me over with these two lovelies--something about being displayed next to matching ashtrays caused me to almost walk right by them.  I wasn't sure if they were glass or plastic at the flea market, but I thought it was worth the risk for $18 each, linen shade INCLUDED ( I know).

Here's another look at the lamp in all of it's green and black glory...

This diy project took me a few months only because when I brought them home, I stuck them in our junk room until I had time to work on them.

Of course, after two months, I found the time.  I used Krylon Fusion spray paint because that's what google told me to use.  Some diy websites said to sand and prime but I'm not a perfectionist, so you know.

I don't have any photos of me spray painting the lamps because I was home alone and couldn't figure out how to paint and photograph at the same time.  So use your imagination here.

They turned out MUCH  better than I expected.  Who knew that spray painting lamps was so easy?!

They even have some brass goodness on top.

Here are the two together.  I didn't know that I could love a pair of lamps so much!

happy new year!

yes, I'm still here.  I unexpectedly needed to take November and December off because painting orders were CRAZY...not a bad crazy, but crazy none the less.  For those of you who run your own business you know that when business picks up, everything else slows down...especially if you're a one woman show.  But I LOVE it!   Here are a few photos of what was keeping busy...

here's one from November, but I think I would keep it out all year

I do a lot of custom quotes, here's two...

a custom color combo of the one you can find here.

a few custom names

 my bestseller this Christmas

 ...a lowercase version of it

...and a different color combo for a customer whose Christmas decorations are blues and whites...might be my favorite:)

 a custom piece for a customer's anniversary

another custom piece for an adoptive mom's baby shower...

and lastly, here's one that I just listed here

That's all for now--a quick hello and some photos:)  I can't wait for tomorrow's post where I'm going to share with you an easy-peasy DIY project.
